The Division of Humanities & Social Sciences (DHSS) at UIC explores a broad range of specializations and represents one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of academic inquiry.  The humanities & social science tradition examines all aspects of the fundamental philosophical questions about the human condition. The division degree programmes collectively explore both aesthetic and artistic concerns of the human spirit as well as the efforts of individuals, groups, organizations and institutions to improve the general welfare of all members of society.

There are six bachelor’s degree programmes within DHSS which prepare students for successful careers in their respective fields, each one is a four year programme. The Bachelor of Arts (honours) degrees are awarded by The Hong Kong Baptist University:

First year undergraduates will come into DHSS through three categories of broad-based admission, including Foreign Language and Literature (FLL), Social Studies (SOC), Journalism and Communication (JC). Each category consists of different programmes as follows:

FLL - Applied Translation Studies (ATS) & English Language and Literature Studies (ELLS)

SOC - Globalisation and Development (GAD) & Social Work and Social Administration (SWSA)

JC - Media and Communication Studies (MCOM) & Public Relations and Advertising (PRA)

DHSS started the first taught postgraduate programme in Communication in Academic Year 2018-2019.
